Although racism isn’t as common and noticeable nowadays, believe me, it’s still going on. Recently, it occurred to me that racism doesn’t really come from within. Nobody really chooses to be racist, but it’s the forces around us that influence our decisions. I know, this sounds cliche, and arguably like old information. And it is, but not many people really pay attention.
It’s not necessarily only how people are raised. It’s the authoritative power that we are brought up in, that makes people racist or do the things they do. And it’s not always their fault, because you can’t blame somebody for being ignorant and stupid if they’re taught to be ignorant and stupid from the start.
I recently read about the Brown eye, Blue eye experiment by Jane Elliott. Now, what Jane Elliott did occurred in the 60’s and not many of you guys will care. But while her experiment remains extremely controversial, there is no doubt of the new light that was shed when Jane Elliott decided to perform an experiment on her young adolescent students.
Do some research on it when you have the time, but the conclusion is clear. The human person will act on what they are fed. If a person is suddenly told that they are superior because they are white, and given more privileges by somebody of high authority, then they will eventually come to treat the “minors” with disrespect and hatred. Even if the person is originally against the idea that white people are superior to others, they will gradually start to be racist.
Think about it, one day, everybody is equal. Then the next day, white people are allowed to cut in line. The white people will have a notion in their minds that makes them actually believe in that bullshit. And they will start to act racist. That is how things work in today’s society. And it’s incredibly stupid.
I really don’t have much of a conclusion, but thanks for reading this ridiculously long post. Oh what am I talkin about. Nobody’s read this, and it’s still so early.
I wrote this in the morning, but nobody is awake or on Tumblr in the morning. So bump!
